Petrichor

When I heard this term, I was amazed. I knew of petri being related to earth - from having heard and used a petridish, in school during biology practicals.
Chor by default relates in my mind to thief.
So a petrichor is a thief who steals petri :-)

It started raining this week after a very hot spell. And after the first rain, there is this fresh earthy smell that comes up, when the first drops of rain hit the land. Interestingly, this smell is call petrichor.

Interesting name for an aroma.

Leopard spotting

I was a bit surprised when I heard it the first time.

Leopards in the busy Whitefield area!!

The first leopard came inside a school on Sunday morning (07th Feb). No school so children were hurt. The people who tried to catch them were bitten and were hurt.

Tuesday evening two more leopards came. This time they were spotted near the school, and could not enter the school.

Yesterday the school was given a holiday.

The place where this happened is about 2 kilometers from my house.

Bangalore Weather

Bangalore Weather - Not sure what to say. I think I can compare it with my maid strike. One never knows what it will turn out like.

The weekend was warm, Sunday afternoon was like summer. Yesterday was cool, and this morning its foggy and cool. Spray like drizzle is also there. Typical Bangalore winter. Feels like Bangalore now. Probably will have a few showers also.

More on the Maid Strike

Finally the strike concluded Saturday night. From Sunday the maids began coming.

Here is what I could find out.

1. The maids have a very strong union here. Most of the maids are part of the union.
2. When a maid was caught stealing, she was handed over to the police and a FIR was filed. The union of the maids are against this.
3. The maid caught stealing was a Muslim woman and the union is citing intolerance as the excuse and not robbery.


So now the complex has issued some Dos and Do Nots.

1. Do not trust the maids blindly.
2. Do not leave valuables lying around the house.
3. Do not give notice to your maids right before Diwali when they want Bonus.

I am not sure I see a Do here. Just a list of Do Not.

And now my complex is telling everyone to go buy a vacuum cleaner and a dishwasher and get rid of the maids. That simple??

Chennai Effect

The Chennai Effect is here. Not heavy rains, but light drizzle all through the day. Cloudy, and its starting to get a bit chilly.

Save Whitefield Day - 30th November 2015

Yesterday was a protest day. For people who stay in and around Whitefield, or work in Whitefield this was an important day.
From 10:30 AM to 1 PM people came on the roads, peacefully standing on the roads with posters.
Whitefield is the largest tax generating area of Bangalore and it has the worst roads.

People were told to dress in Black and stand around. I had given my support by signing up for the online campaign. Due to work pressures, I was not on the road.

The posters had slogans like SAVE WHITEFIELD and ROADS ARE OUR LIFELINE, SAVE THEM.

About 3000 people joined the protest yesterday.

The rains in Bangalore played havoc with the roads. It showed the kind of roads that had been constructed by BBMC.

Everyday when I go home, its like a drive on a backward village road. Broken roads, potholes, dust, mud and to add to that, traffic.

Save Whitefield Day

Clouds are back

We had a few days of sun. Yesterday morning was sunny.
From evening it was cloudy and in the night it rained a bit.

Back to the wet weather again.

Nice sight

After 17-18 days , sun is shining. Nice, warm sun.
After so many days of rain, this is a very welcome change.

Record Rain

It seems Bangalore has broken a hundred year record with rains, third week in a row.

Feeling irritated. You can't always be with an umbrella. Last night I got drenched on my way home. What to do if you suddenly get rained on, on the road? I mean, need sometime to open the bag and get the umbrella out.

So much for wishing for rains!!

Raining Non Stop

So its still raining. Not heavy , but enough to spoil things. It would have been nice, if I had a rainy day off. But no luck.

Bad traffic in the morning. Managed to get a bus to work today. I did not even think of walking to work. Mud and potholes and vehicles splashing.

Weather and memories

When I stepped out to get some bread early morning, I was greeted by a light spray of rain on my face. Reminded me of the weather in San Francisco. Along with this I used to have the fog come in, that is missing here.

Feeling sorry for the cricket fans. Doubt if today's match will happen.

Bangalore Diwali

It has been raining non stop since Sunday night.
Temperatures have dropped making it nice.

Today traffic wasn't much so manageable.

But the roads!! All dug up, hardly walk able or drive able. If you are walking, chances you will get splashed, are very high. And if you are driving, you cannot see the potholes so not sure where you may end up.

So much for Diwali !!

Beautiful Weather

Light drizzle, cool weather. Perfect weather to be home and not at home.
