Uncooked cooking

Yesterday was Ekadashi. Which meant fasting.
By fasting, I am not talking about not eating anything at all.
And also not the kind of fasts some of the my friends have during the Navaratris, or Navratra as they call them.

The Navratra fasting is different. It is eating, and eating a lot. Probably a lot more than what you would have eaten on a normal day.

They start with Sabu dana vada and Sabu Dana khicdi. The soaked sago is mixed with mashed potatoes and roasted groundnuts, some chilly powder and some rock salt. This is then shallow fried.

The khichdi is similar, except the ingredients are fried individually in a pan or a work in hot oil.

Lunch is deep friend potatoes.

Evening is buck wheat parathas (they call it kuttu ka atta) and a potato curry.

This with fruits is fasting meal.

Mine was different.

Breakfast was fruits and yogurt.

Lunch was fruits and a milk shake. Actually I had asked for apple juice. Here juice means fruit and milk, mixed in a food processor. So an apple milk shake.

Even I had a green papaya salad. At home.
I chopped some green papaya - the raw papaya, little capsicum and a tomato. Added some lemon juice and salt.
It tasted nice.

Later dinner was 'sabu makha'. Sago soaked in water, mixed with mashed bananas, sugar, yogurt and some fresh shredded coconut.

Done with Ekadashi fasting.
