Palli Kondeswarar Temple, Surutapalli

This is something interesting I heard today. Palli Kondeswarar Temple, is in Surutapalli. This is in the Chitoor district of Andhra Pradesh. Palli Kondeswarar means sleeping God.

While most Shiva temples have a Shiva Linga which is worshipped, this temple has an idol of Shiva, which is sleeping like Vishnu is showing sleeping.

It is said that when Shiva had drunk Halahal, his throat was burning and he needed some rest. He then rested his head on Parvati's lap. This is the spot where he is supposed to have done that.

Ganesha, Kartikeya, Chandra (Moon) and Surya (Sun) are seen standing around the idol.
