Firecrackers and Diwali

Who burst the first firecracker? Historically gunpowder did not exist till the Chinese invented it, so probably before the 13th century there was a different mode of fireworks. Burning of different resins caused a lot of smoke and some light. Pieces of bamboo when lit and thrown skywards could burn and also create a popping sound due to the hidden air pockets inside.

There may be a scientific reason behind the fireworks. They cause smoke which kills most of the insects which come up and breed at this time of the year, especially mosquitoes.

Leave the reasoning behind.

Have fun. Have a Happy and Safe Diwali.
